Being a Bear is About Being Yourself

Hi, welcome to my home! I’m Alex, one half of the dynamic duo at Bears Looking, the newest shiniest dating app for the LGBTQ+ community.

Bears Looking is a mobile app that’s downloadable for iOS and Android, for members of the gay community. Its purpose is to provide a safe space for members of our community to connect, chat, and meet. Most apps have lost sight of the values that make us proud to be a part of the gay community. Bears Looking focuses on inclusion, acceptance, body positivity, community, and giving back to those in need.

 

Why Looking? Because that’s what we all are doing. Looking for love. Looking for friendship. Looking for chat. Looking for fun. Looking for community. Bears Looking is what you make of it: you can find your new GBF, Mr. Right, or Mr. Right Now.

Why Bears? Because the two founders are both hairy bearded guys! This subsect of the gay community includes a wide range of accepted body shapes, sizes and types and is where we have felt accepted. However, with Bears Looking we want to take the community even further.

Don’t let the name fool you; you don’t need to be a bear to be here. A bear is any gay man who belongs to a very inclusive part of the LGBTQ+ community. Some have hair, some have muscles, some have extra padding, and some are none of the above. Being a bear is about being yourself- we are all unique and incredible no matter the label!

We want to create a safe space for all members of the LGTBQ+ community regardless with which tribe they identify. We also want to create a welcome atmosphere regardless of what members are searching for; we want the emphasis to be on community, events, chat, and finding and creating friends, as well as relationships, dates, and hookups. With Bears Looking we are creating a space that is queer, safe, non-toxic, and unashamed.

 

The special features of Bears Looking set us apart from the existing apps on the digital market.  We have an online forum feed for event meetups, the opportunity to send messages to multiple users at once, the option to poke (who doesn’t love that?) as well as your classic GPS-based profile grid, messaging, and picture swapping. All with an easy-to-use interface and cooler colors and designs than what you’ve seen before.

 

Alex is a Los Angeles native with experience in both design and digital content management. These interests in both creativity and analytics help balance out Bears Looking.  He’s a content creator and social media guru.

 

 

 

 

The two besties were living together during quarantine and were bored of  baking sourdough and scrolling through the same grids of headless torsos. We felt that we could team up and create a platform that we were excited to be on that was more catered toward our interests of inclusion. Bears Looking was born and we’ve been building momentum ever since!
